Description
High-Impact Rubber Playground Tiles — 30mm to 100mm | Up to 3.0m Critical Fall Height
When standard playground tiles aren't enough, these are. Available in six thicknesses from 30mm to 100mm, these professional-grade recycled rubber tiles cover every critical fall height from 1.0m all the way to 3.0m — making them the choice for serious adventure play, high-level climbing structures, and public installations where maximum impact attenuation is required. TÜV certified to EN1177, interlocking pin system, drainage-channelled underside, and available in five colours.
Thickness Options & Critical Fall Heights

| 45mm | 1.5m | 25.6 kg/m² | High slides, moderate climbing structures |
| 50mm | 1.7m | 29.6 kg/m² | Adventure play, taller climbing frames |
| 65mm | 2.3m | 31.2 kg/m² | Large adventure structures, public parks, zip wires |
| 100mm | 3.0m | 45.2 kg/m² | High-level adventure play, extreme climbing structures, specialist installations |
HIC (Head Injury Criterion) fall height test certificates are available on request for all thicknesses.

Colour Options
Available in Black, Red, Green, Sand and Grey — specify your preferred colour when ordering. All colours are available across all thicknesses. For multi-colour installations, tiles connect flush regardless of colour as all share the same 500mm × 500mm footprint.
How to Choose Your Thickness
Measure the highest accessible point of your equipment — this is your Critical Fall Height (CFH). Your tile thickness must equal or exceed the CFH rating for that height:
- Under 1.0m CFH → 30mm tiles
- 1.0m–1.3m CFH → 40mm tiles
- 1.3m–1.5m CFH → 45mm tiles
- 1.5m–1.7m CFH → 50mm tiles
- 1.7m–2.3m CFH → 65mm tiles
- 2.3m–3.0m CFH → 100mm tiles
If in doubt, always go to the next thickness up. All HIC test certificates available on request.
Why the Interlocking Pin System Is Superior
From 30mm upward, tiles are supplied with interlocking pins. When laid in a brick-bond pattern (tiles offset like brickwork), the pins lock everything into a single continuous mat. This means:
- Minimal adhesive needed — outer edges only if no kerb or edge restraint exists
- Dramatically faster installation vs tile-by-tile adhesive methods
- Individual tiles remain liftable for substrate inspection or replacement
- The surface moves as a unit rather than individual tiles shifting
- Excellent on almost any firm substrate — concrete, tarmac, compacted type-1
Step-by-Step Installation
- Prepare substrate — Clean, firm and level. Concrete, tarmac or compacted type-1 hardcore. Avoid thick blinding sand layers which compromise drainage.
- Plan layout — Dry-lay tiles in a brick-bond (offset) pattern before connecting. Mark positions before inserting pins.
- Insert interlocking pins — Connect adjacent tiles using the supplied pins. Work row by row in the brick-bond pattern.
- Outer edge adhesive (if needed) — Apply rubber adhesive to the lip of the first and last row only if no kerb, wall, or edge restraint is present to hold the perimeter.
- Cut perimeter tiles — Use a sharp utility knife or jigsaw. The drainage channels on the underside make cutting straightforward.
- Add edge ramps — For a trip-free perimeter, fit compatible ramped edge and corner pieces.
Where These Tiles Are Specified
- Local Authority & Public Parks — 65mm and 100mm options meet requirements for large adventure structures in public play areas
- Adventure Play Centres — High CFH ratings make these suitable for the most demanding commercial installations
- Schools & Academies — 30mm–50mm options cover the majority of school playground equipment
- Outdoor Gyms & Training Areas — Impact protection around outdoor fitness equipment, pull-up stations and trim trails
- Rooftop & Terrace Installations — Drainage channels and weather resistance make them suitable for elevated outdoor spaces
- Specialist Commercial Projects — The 100mm option (3.0m CFH) serves the highest-specification requirements in the market
Coverage Calculator
- Each tile: 0.25 m² (500mm × 500mm)
- Formula: Area in m² × 4 = tiles needed
Example: 8m × 6m = 48 m² = 192 tiles. Add 5–10% for cuts.
TÜV Certification & EN1177 Compliance
All thicknesses are TÜV certified — tested by an independent accredited body — and comply with EN1177:2008 and EN1177:2017 (Impact-Attenuating Playground Surfacing) as well as EN1176 (Playground Equipment and Surfacing).
TÜV certification provides a higher level of credibility than self-declared compliance, making these tiles the specification-grade choice for local authorities, schools, and commercial operators who require independently verified safety documentation. HIC test results are available on request per thickness.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Which thickness do I need for a 2m climbing frame?
A: A 2m critical fall height requires the 65mm tile (2.3m CFH rating). Always round up to the next thickness if your equipment falls between ratings.
Q: Are these suitable for a 3m high adventure structure?
A: Yes — the 100mm tile provides EN1177-compliant protection for critical fall heights up to 3.0m, covering the most demanding adventure play installations.
Q: Can I mix thicknesses in the same installation?
A: No — mixing different thicknesses creates height differences at joints, forming trip edges and compromising safety compliance. Use a consistent thickness throughout any play zone.
Q: Can I specify a colour?
A: Yes — Black, Red, Green, Sand and Grey are all available. Please specify your preferred colour at checkout or contact us to confirm availability for your chosen thickness.
Q: Do the tiles lift for inspection?
A: Yes — because adhesive is only used on outer edges (where needed), individual tiles in the main area can be lifted using the interlocking pin system, allowing substrate inspection or tile replacement without disturbing the whole surface.
Q: What makes TÜV certification different from standard EN1177 compliance?
A: EN1177 compliance can be self-declared by a manufacturer. TÜV certification means the product has been tested and certified by an independent, accredited testing body — providing a higher level of verified assurance for specification and procurement purposes.
Q: How many tiles do I need per square metre?
A: 4 tiles per m². Multiply your area in m² by 4, then add 5–10% for cuts and spares.
Q: What substrate do I need?
A: Concrete, tarmac or compacted type-1 hardcore. The surface must be firm, level and clean. Avoid deep layers of blinding sand which reduce drainage effectiveness.
