Rubber Playground Ramped Edges & Corners — The Professional Finishing Touch
Every professional playground tile installation needs one thing to complete it: a safe, trip-free perimeter. These 500mm × 500mm × 30mm rubber ramped edges and corners are purpose-built to pair with our 30mm playground tiles, creating a smooth, gradual transition from tile surface to ground level. No sharp edges, no trip hazards, no ugly exposed tile sides — just a clean, compliant finish that passes any safety inspection.

Edge vs Corner — Which Do You Need?
| Piece Type | Use For | Quantity Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Ramped Edge | Every straight perimeter run — along walls, fences, and open sides | One edge piece per 500mm of straight border |
| Corner Piece | Every 90° outside corner where two edge runs meet | One corner per outside corner of your installation |
Example: A 4m × 3m rectangular tile area has 4 straight sides and 4 corners. You would need: 14 edge pieces (8 + 6 minus corners) + 4 corner pieces = 18 pieces total.
How to Calculate What You Need
- Count straight perimeter metres — measure the total length of all open edges of your tile installation
- Convert to pieces — each edge piece covers 500mm (0.5m), so multiply your perimeter metres by 2
- Count outside corners — add one corner piece per 90° outside corner in your layout
- Add 10% spare — for cuts on irregular shapes or future additions
Quick formula: Perimeter in metres × 2 = edge pieces needed. Plus one corner piece per outside corner.
Why Ramped Edges Matter
- Trip hazard elimination — a 30mm exposed tile edge is a trip hazard, especially for running children. Ramped edges reduce this to zero
- EN1177 & RoSPA compliance — safety inspectors expect a clean perimeter treatment. Exposed tile edges can result in inspection failures
- Professional appearance — a ramped perimeter transforms a DIY-looking tile area into a finished, professional installation
- Wheelchair & pushchair access — a gradual ramp transition makes the surface accessible from any direction
- Prevents tile lifting — edges help lock the perimeter tiles in place, reducing movement over time
Installation Guide
- Lay your tiles first — complete the main tile area with your 30mm playground tiles before fitting the perimeter pieces
- Connect edge pieces — slot edge pieces into the open connector holes on the outer tile edges using the same dowel system as the tiles. No additional fixings needed
- Position corner pieces — fit corner pieces at each outside corner, connecting to both adjacent edge or tile pieces
- Check alignment — ensure the ramp slopes away from the tile surface smoothly with no lip or gap
- Cut to fit — edge pieces can be cut to length with a sharp utility knife or jigsaw for non-standard dimensions
Colour Matching
Available in Black and Green to match our 30mm playground tiles. For a clean professional finish, order edge and corner pieces in the same colour as your tile border. For installations using multiple tile colours, match the edge colour to whichever colour sits at the perimeter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do these fit the 20mm and 40mm tiles as well as 30mm?
A: These pieces are specifically designed for 30mm tiles — they match the exact 30mm height profile. For 20mm or 40mm installations, the ramp profile would not align correctly. Contact us if you need edge pieces for other thicknesses.
Q: How many edge pieces do I need?
A: Each piece covers 500mm (0.5m) of perimeter. Multiply your total open perimeter length in metres by 2 to get your edge piece count. Add one corner piece per outside corner.
Q: Do they connect with the same dowels as the tiles?
A: Yes — the edge and corner pieces use the same interlocking dowel connector system as the 30mm playground tiles. No additional hardware needed.
Q: Can edge pieces be cut shorter?
A: Yes — cut with a sharp utility knife along the rubber base, or use a jigsaw for cleaner cuts. The material trims easily.
Q: Are these required for safety compliance?
A: While not mandatory by standard, ramped edges are strongly recommended for any EN1177-compliant installation. Exposed 30mm tile edges are classified as a trip hazard by most RoSPA inspectors and local authority assessors.
Q: Can I mix Black and Green edge pieces?
A: They are the same profile — the only difference is colour. You can mix them within the same installation, though a consistent colour gives a more professional finish.
Q: What's the difference between an edge and a corner piece?
A: An edge piece is a straight ramp for straight perimeter runs. A corner piece is an L-shaped ramp for 90° outside corners. You need both for a fully finished rectangular installation.
Q: Can I use these indoors?
A: Yes — suitable for indoor soft play areas, sports halls, or any indoor installation using 30mm rubber tiles where a trip-free edge transition is required.
